Inflation pinch in Kenyan Market
Since the start of this month o March the inflation has continued to go up in Kenyan market especially on Agricultural products. Due to lack of enough onions and tomatoes in the market to cater for rise and need of those essential commodities the trend has changed how customer’s and consumers try to corp up with that situation.
Mr Ken Omwayo is a young business man in Ongata Rongai who vender vegetables and owns a small kiosk . He has done that business for 4 years but this time he had noticed some change in the way customers shop and the total income he generates each day compared to the past.
He says he used to get customers who could buy tomatoes above ksh 100 around 50 ,but now the number had dropped drastically to around 5- 10. He say the problem could be rise of price and the quality of tomatoes right now in the market. Right now one tomato goes for ksh 20 which is unbearable for many common mwanachi. He admits the selling of royco and tomato sauce has gone up ,and exmates around 80% of his customers have changed the routine how they shop. Many tomato venders in Rongai admits that their sell has decreased almost half which means they sell 50 % of what they used to sell.
This puts the economy of the country at risks , the tax man in his quarter announcement admitted the target had been missed . Infact small scale business provide around 50% of what the taxman collects every year.

The innovation week which started on Wednesday,26th february,2020 at Multimedia University, highlighted how to assist the government of Kenya to achieve the big four agenda. Due to technological era, big brains create ideas on the innovation sector that helps in saving energy, creating employment and many others. Some of these ideas are, making a Simple solar home system that takes energy direct from the sun, Portable fruit waste Bio-digester, Wind and solar energy comprehensive utilization test device among others. According to Dr Frank Stevens the host of the programme, innovation is fruitful both to the country and an individual and that most universities becomes a target for innovation programmes because here is where young minds are generated, young people who are yearning for a better future with development. A round up of the Multimedia University of Kenya’s innovation week

by Okinyi Francis

Borrowing from the words of perhaps the world’s greatest innovator Thomas Edison alias the Wizard of Menlopark “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up” .The most certain way to succeed is always to try one more time.Tens of innovators flooded the halls of Multimedia University’s conference hall starting from 8.00am on the 26th of Feb for the three day event with their innovations clutched. This was the fifth time in a row the institution has held such a prestigious event in the world of academia.Innovation weeks attract some of the finest brains in not only science and technology but also in arts. This time the innovation was so open and not limited to only science and technology.Innovation ideally is any exploit that would make the world a better place and the quality of improved.New entries were recorded from the faculty of media and communication under the tutelage of the film department when their feature film “Wema” screened for the first time since production in front of the mammoth crowd of intellects .The film which tends to show how students exploit different avenues like science and technology to survive while in University. The film indeed is a unique tool, as arts change perceptions and attitude. The film sensitizing on the importance of science and technology and its adoption among students.

Some of the items showcased were from resident students while others were from other Universities. One of the award winning innovations was the smart Bin which is a concept of two Multimedia university students in the faculty of Engineering ,an incorporation of tech into how wastes are sampled and clients rewarded with bonus points.

Guests speakers were no exception and some of the men who graced this occasion were the high and mighty in the fields of science and technology ,governance and career development who urged students to venture more in the field of sciences.Mr. Anderson Maina the Registrar in charge of Research and innovation and Professor Paul Mbatia the DVC in charge of Academic Affairs Research and innovation were the main organizers of the event. One thing that was prominent from the speakers was the need for students to enroll in technical and vocational institutes to build on the skill sets they posses.

There were more male innovators as compared to their female counterparts. The male ratio was 3:1 for every three male innovators recorded one was female a worrying trend. This should be looked at with a keen interest and effort made to persuade more ladies to venture into Science and Technology.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
