Effects of Corona Virus on Sports

The Migical Kenyan Open, a European Tour tournament, was the first to feel the brunt of the virus.The tournament had been scheduled to start on (Thursday 12th march) running through the rest of the weekend but was called off. The ministry of Sports made a decision to allow any teams to travel out of the country e.g The Natunal Super League and Women Premier League matches would go on but behind closed doors.This made the Natunal Judo team failing to travel to Senegal where they were scheduled to take place in Olympic qualifiers.

Global sports value

The global value of sports industry is estimated at US$756 billion annually but due to covid, millions of jobs are at risk both globally and locally like Sports professionals who major in sporting services e.g traveling,tourism, infrastructure e.t.c.

Professional rugby players and athletes are also under pressure to reschedule there training while trying to stay fit at home making them to risk losing professional sponsors who may not support them as initially agreed. In addition, the cancellation of games also impacts many social benefits of global and local sport events whichcan cement social cohesion.
