The novel Corona Virus has disrupted sports all over the world with major football leagues across Europe and the world supsended over fears of new infections.The Italian Serie A would be played behind closed doors but with infections recorded by players nobody is sure whether the league would continue as scheduled till the 3rd of April.The Italian Olympic Committee sat today and part of the resolutions is to suspend all sports both national and international until the containment of the Covid 19 pandemic.The Rugby Union was equally affected as scheduled matches on 14th and 15th of March between England and Italy had to be called off.Italy’s sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora has accused Serie A for negligence following his call to have all sports suspended.He said that it did not make sense for football matches to continue yet in Nothern Italy upto 16million people were on quarantine.
The French Sports Ministry issued a similar directive on French ligue 1 directing that all sports matches would be played behind closed doors or with the availability of not more than one thousand fans.This came in place as the second leg champions league football match between PSG and B Dortmond was played behind closed doors.
Here at home the government gave a directive that all international sporting events was suspended.The government’s message was preached by Athletics Kenya which has banned all sporting international travels.Kenya is one of the countries that had not sighted corona Virus but now has a confirmed case.Local sports events would continue as planned as the country is significantly safe.
Football’s world governing body FIFA has been forced to cancell its 70th congress in Ethiopia ,the summit was scheduled for May 2020 in Adis Ababa.Concerns over health of participants and various stakeholders has led to the postponements and cancellations of various sporting events in the world and Kenya not an exception.
