The effect of Covid 19 is felt far and wide and in every sector.Football worldwide has been affected in the regions where the pandemic has hit most.FIFA the world football governing body was forced to suspend its 70th congress amidst fear of infection slated for May 2020.A number of football leagues world wide have been affected.China which is the first country to record the virus has had major football tournaments suspended.The Chinese Super Cup and the Asian Football Championship the equal of the Champions league have been suspended.In Europe ,The Italian Serie A has been suspended indefinately after a few matches had been played in doors.Italy has recorded the worst infection rates outside China with over 800 deaths recorded.The Euro 2020 championship might also be affected as host nations battle the spread of Covid 19,the 4 nations that would host the tournament have each reported cases of infection,Germany,England ,Italy and Russia are the hosts.Meanwhile UEFA has stated that the situation is under scrutiny and would follow orders of the host nations.In England Manchester United’s Odeon Ighalo was forced to spend the first few weeks away from the rest of the squad after his move from China.This shows how thorough clubs are to contain the spread of the disease.Handshakes also have been banned from training complexes.
Ligue 1 matches will either be played in restriction or fans not more than 1000 allowed per game .Women Football qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics involving three countries ,Australia,Thailand and Chinese Taipei were moved away from China completely to Sidney .No player based in Wuhan was selected for the Chinese National Team.
